Is there a specific diet to help us manage stress? Not exactly.. though there are a few foods that make us feel happy! Home-comfort foods make us feel happy and full! Sunday dinners at our parents, weekly spag-bol with the family, or a big bowl of Scouse on a Winters night. Homely foods can create a calming effect in our brain caused by a hormone called serotonin. Carbohydrates have been linked to stress reduction because they release serotonin. Making us feel full and satisfied! However, dieticians recommend steering clear of simple high sugar carbs because the serotonin spike doesn’t last very long, causing us to feel tired. Although, this can work as a treat before bed-time if you’re having trouble sleeping! Try a light snack, like a yogurt and a handful of Blueberries.

How many times have you felt under a ton of pressure at work, only to have a colleague tell you to "relax.. be mindful". Why thank you O' wise one! Being mindful, eh!? I wish I’d thought of that sooner. My problem is now solved!

Being mindful sounds like a given, however when actively used, allows us to take control of our thoughts, moods and subsequent actions. Being mindful is about putting you back in the driver’s seat!

We have the wonderful Elli Johnson joining us at Eudaemonia on the 15th of September. Johnson is a Mental Health ambassador and author of 'How not to be Good'. Elli's talk centers around how we can re-learn to focus our energy on the things that are most important, and to handle our emotions better. This is one's crucial to just about anyone that want's to better themselves! Come join us!
